We do the math
All values are auto-filled. Edit anything you need and it turns red so you can track your changes.
Warp
Finished width
Per item, after washing
in
Finished length
Per item, after washing
in
Fringe / hem allowance
Total for both ends of each item
in
Warp shrinkage
How much length your cloth loses after washing
%
Draw-in
How much narrower your cloth becomes as you weave
%
Loom waste
Auto-set from your loom type. The yarn that stays on the loom.
in
EPI (ends per inch)
Auto-filled from your yarn and structure
epi
Sampling allowance
Extra warp for test weaving (0 = skip)
in
Width on loom (calculated) in
Weft
Weft shrinkage
How much width your woven cloth loses after washing
%
Take-up
Weft yarn consumed as picks travel over and under the warp
%
PPI (picks per inch)
Auto-filled. Typically matches EPI for balanced weave

Weavable length / item (calculated) in

Defaults to one color per side. Add more and enter percentages if you have multiple colors.
Enter a color name and percentage for each color. You can use specific color names like Blanchi or Navy. Warp percentages must add up to 100%. Weft percentages must add up to 100%.

Glossary of weaving terms
EPI — Ends Per Inch
Number of warp threads per inch of weaving width. Set by yarn weight and weave structure.
PPI — Picks Per Inch
Number of weft passes per inch of length. For balanced plain weave, PPI usually equals EPI.
Warp
Threads running lengthwise on the loom, wound on before weaving. Forms the vertical structure of the cloth.
Weft
Yarn passing horizontally over and under warp threads with each shuttle pass (pick).
Draw-in
Narrowing of width as weft pulls selvedges inward. Typically 5-10% plain weave, 3-5% twill.
Take-up
Extra weft yarn used as each pick travels over and under warp threads.
Shrinkage
Length and width lost after washing. Cotton 10-15%; Cottolin 15%. Always weave longer than your target finished size.
Loom Waste
Warp tied onto the loom that cannot be woven. Typically 12-24" depending on loom.
Sett
The EPI/PPI combination that determines how open or dense your weave structure will be.
Selvedge
The finished side edges where the weft turns back at each pass.
Fringe / Hem Allowance
Extra warp length per item for fringe or a sewn hem. Included before applying shrinkage.
Plain Weave
Simplest structure: weft goes over one warp thread, under the next. Strong, balanced, beginner-friendly.
